Born in Mohe, ¡°the North Pole of China,¡± in 1964, Chi Zijian graduated from Daxinganling College of Education in 1984 and obtained an M.A. from Beijing Institute of Education in 1987.  She has been working at the Heilongjiang Writers Association since 1990.  Since her literary debut in 1983, she has published more than forty books including Under the Tree, North Pole Village Tales, Snow Falling on My World,  and Right Bank of the Argun.  She is the recipient of the third Lu Xun Literary Award, the seventh Mao Dun Literary Award, and the WCP Literary Award of Austrailia.  Chi¡¯s works have been translated into English, Japanese, French and Italian, and her Right Side of the Argun is scheduled to be published in Korean soon.
