Born in Seoul Kim In-suk graduated from Yonsei University, majoring in Journalism and Broadcasting. She made her literary debut when her short story, ¡°Season of Loss¡± won the short story prize from the Chosun-ilbo Spring Literary Contest in 1983, the year in which she published her first novel A Blood Vessel.  After the publication of Knife Blade and Love in 1993, she lived in Sidney, Austrailia for about two years. Afterwards, she lived in China for five years and published many stories and essays related to China. She is a recipient of the Hanguk-ilbo Literary Award, the Hyundae Literary Award, the Yi Sang Literary Award, the Yisu Literary Award, the Daesan Literary Award, and the Dong-in Literary Award. Her publications include novels, ¡¯79-80: Between Winter and Spring, A Paper Bag, Sohyeon, and Can You Become Crazy?, as well as short story collections, Knife Blade and Love, Autobiography of the Woman, and Good-bye, Elena.
